Adar's Secrets: Miracles Within Nature
Feb 24, 2025
To understand the depth of Adar, we look at the Sefer Yetzirah, a foundational Kabbalistic text that reveals the hidden spiritual blueprint of each month. 🔹 Divine Permutation: The four-letter Name of God takes on a unique arrangement this month: Hey-Hey-Yud-Vav (ה-ה-י-ו). This permutation reflects hidden divine flow within the physical world, where miracles occur within nature itself. 🔹 Tribe of the Month: Naftali—symbolizing speed, fluidity, and the power of prayer to manifest divine will. 🔹 Letter of the Month: Kuf (ק)—A letter that dips below the baseline, symbolizing the struggle between holiness and superficiality. The Kuf represents Amalek, the force of doubt and spiritual detachment, yet it can be elevated into holiness. 🔹 Body Part: Spleen—An organ associated with filtering toxins and negative energy. On a spiritual level, the spleen is connected to the transformation of melancholy into joy. 🔹 Sense of the Month: Laughter (Schok)—A unique ability to break free from limitations and see the deeper divine humor in life’s unfolding events. 🔹 Zodiac Sign: Pisces (Mazal Dagim)—The double-fish represents divine providence and protection, swimming in the hidden depths of existence. Adar’s Energy: Miracles Within Nature Adar teaches us that miracles don’t always have to be supernatural—they are embedded within nature itself. The Talmud (Tractate Beitzah) states that if a person wants their investments to last, they should "plant an Adar." This phrase carries a profound message: To succeed in life, we must plant the awareness that God is present in every aspect of nature. What appears as "natural" is, in truth, a hidden miracle. The Bnei Yissaschar, a great Kabbalistic commentator, explains that recognizing God's presence in the ordinary brings abundant joy and success. This is because true joy comes from dispelling doubt ("Ein simcha k'hataras ha’safekot"—"There is no greater joy than resolving uncertainty"). When we see God's hand in every detail of life, we unlock the joyful energy of Adar. The Battle Against Amalek: Overcoming Doubt The negative force that blocks joy is Amalek, the spiritual enemy of the Jewish people. Amalek represents doubt, cynicism, and spiritual disconnection. 🔹 The name Amalek (עמלק) has the same numerical value (240) as safek (ספק), meaning doubt. Amalek's power is to make a person feel disconnected from divine flow, trapped in logic and superficiality. 🔹 The letter Kuf (ק)—which represents Adar—resembles the letter Hey (ה) but has a longer leg, dipping into the realm of illusion. It represents a false version of holiness, a spiritual imposter that pulls a person into negativity. 🔹 The mitzvah of "Remembering Amalek"—read in the weeks before Purim—teaches us that the key to joy is eliminating self-doubt and recognizing that everything is part of a greater divine plan. The Hidden Story of Adar and Purim Adar is the month of Purim, the greatest hidden miracle in Jewish history. Unlike other biblical miracles—like the splitting of the Red Sea—Purim unfolded through natural events, one after the other, until the entire reality shifted. At first, the Jewish people didn’t recognize the hidden divine hand behind the story. Only in hindsight did they see that every event was orchestrated to bring about redemption. This is why laughter is the sense of Adar. Laughter occurs when the unexpected happens—when a situation turns out completely different than we thought. In Adar, we recognize that all of history is a divine comedy, written by the Ultimate Playwright. Pisces & The Fish: Seeing Beyond the Surface The zodiac sign of Adar is Pisces (Mazal Dagim), the Fish. Fish live beneath the surface, in the hidden realm of water, representing a deeper reality beyond what our eyes can see. 🔹 The Talmud teaches that those born in Adar have no Evil Eye upon them, just like fish, who remain concealed within their element. 🔹 The Hebrew word "Adar" (אדר) can be read as Aleph-Dar (א-דר), meaning "The Divine One dwells." The hidden reality is that God is always here, guiding every step. Naftali: The Power of Quick Transformation The tribe of Adar is Naftali, described in the Torah as "Naftali ayala shlucha"—a swift deer. Naftali represents prayer, agility, and rapid change. 🔹 The name Naftali (נפתלי) comes from the root Tefillah (תפילה), meaning prayer. 🔹 The energy of Naftali teaches us that prayer is always answered, even when we don’t see immediate results. Just like in the story of Purim, everything can turn around in an instant. 🔹 Naftali is associated with "S’va ratzon"—being satiated with divine will. This means aligning ourselves with a higher purpose, allowing transformation to flow effortlessly. Living the Energy of Adar How do we apply the lessons of Adar in our daily lives? 1️⃣ See the hidden miracles. Recognize that nature itself is divine, and life is filled with disguised blessings. 2️⃣ Eliminate doubt. Trust that everything is unfolding exactly as it should—even if we don’t yet understand how. 3️⃣ Embody laughter. Find joy in the unexpected, knowing that even challenges will flip in your favor. 4️⃣ Activate prayer. Use the energy of Naftali to pray with confidence, knowing that your words create real impact. 5️⃣ Transform negativity. Just as the spleen filters impurities, take time to filter out negativity—whether in thought, speech, or action. Final Thought: The Hidden Joy of Adar Adar reminds us that life is a divine script, and we are playing a role in an unfolding masterpiece. Just like the Jewish people in the story of Purim, we may not always see the full picture, but one day, we’ll look back and laugh—because it will all make perfect sense. Let’s enter Adar with joy, trust, and the awareness that we are already swimming in divine abundance.
